Budget Creation

In this economy, saving money is not only important but crucial to stay ahead of any emergencies that require financial resources.

Why is having a budget for home expenses important?

Creating a budget helps you understand where your money is allocated each month, allowing you to develop a plan for saving.  By having a household budget in place, you can easily track your spending, save, and more easily monitor and reach your financial goals.

There are different ways to create and maintain a budget.  Let DMMC show you how.

Expense tracking

For those who may not understand the full picture of how much money is being spent in a certain time period, expense tracking is crucial to help you save for the future.  If you’re spending more on household expenses than you should, you’ll have less money to work with, when you really need it.

Why is it important to keep track of household expenses?

The main reason you should track your expenses is to identify and eliminate wasteful spending habits in your financial life.  Moreover, consistently tracking your expenses will help you maintain control of your finances and promote better financial habits like saving and investing.

Statement reconciliation

Many of us had an issue where something was paid for on our bank transactions but ‘just doesn’t add’ up on our bank statement.  Imagine having to deal with that often and when you find the time to research all the history, it can go back months or years.  All that can add up.

That is an example of statement reconciliation.

Statement reconciliation is the process of comparing transactions from your bank account to the statement or other documentation either from the bank or the merchant. If there are any discrepancies, it’s important they are resolved as soon as possible after discovery.

Record retention and organization

Keeping up with bills and payments can be challenging, but keeping those statements organized and easily accessible, that’s another matter.

Many people receive bills in the mail.  They may open them, read and pay them, then place them in a box, a cabinet or the kitchen ‘junk drawer’.  Over time, ‘out of sight, out of mind’ often happens and when they need to find a certain bill for any reason, they won’t be able to easily find it.

Utility bills should be kept for a minimum of one year, unless you're using these as a deduction, like a home office.

There are other important records aside from bills that need to be kept for a certain length of time.

Records for tax season are equally important, as we file taxes each year.

Keep in mind that the IRS can also ask for records going back up to six years, if they suspect fraud.
DMMC will work with you to keep bills and other records safe, organized and easily accessible.

Navigate online transactions

The list of scammers and victims is getting longer every year.  Many billers don’t have an option for in-person payments, so using the internet to use their website is the only option.  How you to know which sites are safe?  If you are not sure if a site is safe, it’s best not to engage it, as there are many ways scammers can get access to your bank accounts and personal information.

Scammers PRETEND to be from an organization you know, often creating copies of legitimate sites.  In other cases, they may use information they may already have and reach out to you, saying there is a problem with your account or transaction, or you won a prize.  If they do reach you, they may pressure you to act quickly or to pay in a certain way.

Allow DMMC to conduct your online financial transactions with ease and help keep you out of harm’s way from scammers.

Financial Coaching

Let’s face it:  Saving during the lean times isn’t easy. This economy has experienced many ups and down over the past decade.  With so many factors affecting the US economy, one needs to ensure they have enough savings for unexpected purchases or future savings goals.

Loose spending habits that developed when money was plentiful should be curtailed, as they can spell financial doom to those who don’t want to change or believe things are not as bad as they look.  Or, they may have goals in mind; like a trip, wedding or college and don’t yet have a plan to save for it.

Working with DMMC can help you save for the future and eliminate habits that aren’t helping get you towards your savings goals.

Keep in mind that you’re not giving up control of your financial life, but gaining better control by working with Daily Money Matters Consulting to help you manage day to day transactions at a level you feel comfortable with.
